There are two electron states:

Excited- When electrons are farther away from the nucleus because the absorbed electromagnetic waves.

Ground- When electrons are closer to the nucleus because they re-admitted electromagnetic waves.

Atoms absorb and reflect electromagnetic light.
They form molecules to become stable and energy is stored in the bonds as chemical potential energy.
The parts of the atom determine how the energy will be transferred or transformed.

When you are using a flashlight, protons are being re-admitted.
